The title of this post got ya, didn’t it? Isn’t it just the coolest phrase?? It gives you an inkling of what the author of the blog, Heart Like a Dog, is like. She’s cool. She’s a dog-lover. She’s down-to-earth, and her blog’s a joy to read. Jodi Stone, with tales of her dogs Sampson and Delilah, is someone you should know.
Jodi writes almost daily; her musings are often about her dogs, and life with dogs, but sometimes it’s something else she’s experienced that she wants to share with her readers. She’s honest, and not afraid to present her thoughts and opinions or to bare her fears and insecurities, with her readers.
Reading Jodi’s blog makes you feel like you’re having a conversation over a cup of coffee – with a dear friend.
Sampson is Jodi’s heart-dog. It’s not hard to fathom, he’s such a love. Since puppyhood, he’s done nothing but bring her joy (and help her through the empty-nest-syndrome, something I can personally attest to being a rougher experience than you’d expect!) Here’s just one example of his sweetness:
In October of 2005; our daughter Lisa got married in Florida, there was no doubt that Sampson would have to go with us. I found a house, with a pool that was dog friendly and so we packed up the car and the three of us headed to Florida. We were traveling in a Chevy Equinox which is a small SUV, the seats were down so it was all flat and Sampson’s bed was tucked in the back. About 3:30 AM; (the time we normally snuggled ) he moved himself so his head was on the armrest between the two front seats and we snuggled in the car.
(…Okay…I’m melting…)
She brought Delilah into their home when she was feeling guilty about leaving Sampson home alone all day while they were at work. Delilah is decidedly different than Sampson – in some ways his polar opposite. While Sampson brings peaceful companionship to her life, Delilah brings challenges and a bit of spice with her spunky personality.
Jodi hosted Thanksgiving this year:
I don’t know about you, but I want to get as much as possible out of my turkey. So as soon as everyone had packed up their goodies to take home, I put the turkey in the stock pot to start my turkey soup.
You can read more of this post here. There never seems to be a dull moment in Jodi’s home, thanks to Delilah!
Last Fall Jodi thought it would be great for bloggers to share their dogs’ health stories through a blog hop, and the result was a terrific resource of pet health information as told through the eyes of bloggers who experienced various illnesses/conditions in their pets.
She has added it to her site on a permanent page, Caring for Critters, where you can get access to all the posts at any time. It’s fascinating to read how each pet guardian managed their pet’s illness or injury, what they experienced and how they resolved it.
Jodi cohosts the “Barks and Bytes” blog hop each Thursday, and was co-host for both the #Advent4Dogs Calendar and the “Dumb Ass Dog Owners” blog hop. She’s also going to be a speaker at the next BlogPaws conference. She’s a busy blogger!

Take a moment to check out Heart Like a Dog (if you don’t already follow it) – I’ll bet you’ll become a fan just like I have. Perhaps my favorite post of Jodi’s is this recent one: It’s the Woods…It’s Always the Woods. I can’t do it justice; you need to read it, see the photos, feel it for yourself. I can tell you, her words and photos transported me to a beautiful place I wish I could visit every day.
Jodi is a great writer, and her posts are a pleasure to read. It’s truly an honor for me to tell you about her wonderful blog. And it’s an even greater honor to be able to call her my friend, too. Enjoy reading Heart Like A Dog!

Oh Kim!! What a beautiful gift (and boy did it come at the right time.) 🙂 You are far too kind.
I’m glad you enjoyed the post about the woods, it’s one of my most favorite places on earth. And yes, you would be totally correct in saying Sampson and Delilah are practically polar opposites. It’s very rare that they approach anything in the same way.
I’m really glad we ‘found’ each other and so pleased we are friends. Thank you so much for the beautiful post.
You’re most welcome – and it’s all so very much well-deserved! I thank my luck stars for having found such a great friend in you. And Pamela for introducing us. lol
Happy Holidays, Happy New Year, wishing you the very best, Jodi!
And the same to you Kim!
