To harness or not to harness – has that been your question? Harnesses are great for a variety of reasons, not least of which is to avoid the choking maneuvers of standard collars. Have you considered getting one for your dog? Here’s a chance for you to win a free harness from Kurgo!
We’ve joined Dogtipper, HufflePup , SomthingWaggingThisWayComes, and Tiffany’sDiamondDogs in providing a group giveaway for a dog harness in the winner’s choice of styles from Kurgo. You may have already heard of Kurgo – it’s a company that offers a terrific variety of quality products for your dog.
I’ve long read about the value of choosing a harness over a collar when walking your dog. And admittedly, it’s been on my to-do list for way too long to take CindyLu in to the pet shop and find one that fits her well. Together we go on lots of walks, and much like most dogs CindyLu loves to follow the scents.
In her excitement, she tends to pull sometimes. It’s not uncommon for her to end up coughing from the constriction on her throat thanks to the collar she wears. And it’s not even a choke or prong type – which are definite no-no’s! She would be much better off with a harness. I’m ashamed to admit I’ve left her without one for this long.
Harnesses can literally be a lifesaver for dogs that tend to slip out of their collars. You can say goodbye to the horrifying risk of your dog getting loose, then getting lost. While a Martingale collar also works great for these Houdini-dogs, it can still result in too much pressure on their neck and spine if they’re the pulling-types.
Harnesses also work great when you’re training. They provide better control for you, since they wrap around so much more of your dog’s body than just his neck. And for dogs that seem to think they’ve been enlisted in some mighty race, a harness offers a snug reminder to them that there’s a human attached – they tend to slow down, not pull as much.
Obviously, nothing beats proper (positive!) training. But combined with good training and your love, a harness can make the difference between walking your dog and enjoying a wonderful walk with your dog.
Go ahead, check out the variety of styles offered by Kurgo here. I’ve no doubt you’ll find exactly what you’d like best for your dog.
