My family was friends with someone who had a pet raccoon. They were as devoted to Peppi as any dog or cat lover.
And, unlike a dog or cat, the raccoon can feed herself.

SQUEEEE! I love raccoons. When I was a teenager, a baby raccoon was abandoned on our property and after waiting to see if it’s Mama would come back I finally had him vaccinated and took him in. After nearly 6 months of treating him as a pet, he started to get squirrely at night and the wildlife refuge took him to integrate into their raccoon population. I still miss him though.
