It’s not uncommon for dogs to be disturbed by sudden loud noises, such as thunderstorms or fireworks. It can be a challenge to calm your dog’s nerves during such events. With summertime holidays approaching, I found this video of a story narrated by Simon Callow to be quite interesting. It was created to help dogs that are reactive to Bonfire Night and the fireworks that ensue.
I will try it tonight and play the video for Easy – Thanks!
I figure it doesn’t hurt to try, right? Sure hope it helps!
Hi Y’all,
Here in the rural south fireworks are almost as common and frequent as thunderstorms. Last night was no exception. I barked, growled, checked the house for intruders and finally went down the hall to my crate where I could sleep in peace and relative quiet.
Y’all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
You’re such a good boy, Hawk! Thanks for stopping by ๐
That’s interesting! Thanks for sharing, my friend!
Hi, Doreen! It’s definitely soothing for me lol I’m going to try out with Chester, he’ll be the real test!
WOW! Wonder if that would work for us? We have fireworks here all year round.
You too? We don’t have them here very often, it helps that they’re illegal. I’d be curious about it working for cats – maybe? I’ve only known of classical music as a great de-stressor for cats. We’ll have to try this!
Oh yes, all dogs love being read a story.
Hi! I never knew that, although I’m sure they love hearing our voices ๐
How cute! My sister hates thunder and fireworks but she just goes upstairs and hides in the bathroom that doesn’t have a window and that seems to make it alright with her.
Sounds like our Chester with the hallway, it helps him a lot!
Come to think of it, I wonder if listening to this video IN the hallway would do the trick for him – ?!
This is wonderful. (I haven’t quite gotten through the whole thing, damn internet, but I love that folks are starting to realize dogs need a little extra-gentle care somtimes. I will try this with Bella. Thanks!Q
It would be awesome if we could find some way to truly help dogs like Bella, poor thing! We tried the story during a bad storm – and it helped Chester a lot. Just need it to be longer!
Hi CindyLu and human Kim,
Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar is so glad you posted up that video. She has fond memories of that video that helped soothe her during Guy Fawkes night. I tried singing to her, but…um….
Penny’s human,
Gary ๐
This is a really interesting idea! I’m glad to know it works for some dogs!
