Betcha ten to one that if you’re on Facebook at all these days, it’s been driving you a little more than slightly batty. “Wonky” doesn’t even begin to describe it’s performance of late. Not finding your favorite pages’ posts in your news feed just about finishes off the mess. But there is a way to resolve at least that latter issue.
With a two-pronged approach, you can ensure that you won’t miss the Facebook postings of pages you’ve “Liked”. With all the chaos of late, Facebook seems to have lost some of its data. Pages that you were following in the past now may not show in your feed for one of two reasons: either you’re no longer connected to them as a “fan”, or that page is not marked to show in your feed.
I don’t understand why Facebook thinks you would Like a page, but then not want to see its posts in your feed. However, Facebook hasn’t been making much sense of late, and seems to be so intent on ensuring it offers the same “advantages” that MySpace and Google Plus offer..well, the social media giant has just been busy adding layers of choices and to-do’s for its users. At any rate, you now must not only “Like” a page in order to follow its posts, you must also choose specifically to have it show in your feed.
If you realize you haven’t been seeing posts from a particular page, head on over to it and check if it shows you’ve “Liked” it. Even though you did in the past, at least some pages don’t show that now. If need be, “Like” the page again.
Next, hover over that button and click on “Show in News Feed”. Both the “Like” button and it’s dropdown menu have been more than a little haphazard as of late — you may have to refresh the page, then check if your choice was recorded correctly.
Once you’ve ensured that you are showing as a fan (“Liked” the page) and that you wish to have that page’s posts show in your news feed, you should begin to see it’s posts again. Maybe. There are no guarantees on the performance of this, even when you’re definitely following the page and specified showing in feed. I know, gee thanks-but-no-thanks, Facebook.
There is a way to ensure you see the posts from your favorite pages, without having to visit each and every page every day. You can create an Interest List, by clicking on the “List”choice in the “Like” tab’s dropdown menu. Your Interest List will appear in your links to the left of your news feed. Just by clicking on it, you will be taken to a feed that contains all posts from all pages you chose to include in that list. You can also create multiple lists for yourself.
CindyLu and I thought we’d offer a little gift to you, in honor of your friendship and loyalty (bones will be doled out at another time)…If you head on over to our Facebook page, you’ll find the first post includes a link to CindyLu’s Interest Page, Pets: Rub My Belly. (You’ll see it’s in the human’s name – me – we created it through my personal page.)
You can always “Like” the included pages, choose to have them show in your news feed – but at the very least, it’s a collection ready for your enjoyment. Just subscribe to this list and you’ll always have some great pages full of information, inspiration and humor at the click of your mouse.
Give it a try, tell us what you think!
Hi Kim, CindyLu and all your adoring fans,
As you may well know, ‘Farcebook’ drives me “batty” at the best of times.
For instance, you just left a comment on my profile that vanished! Anyway, I have taken note of your info in this posting and I shall double check my settings in regards to news feeds and interest feeds and ‘animal feeds’…..
Okay, I also forwarded CindyLu’s Interest Page to a number of your starstruck buddies on Farcebook, sorry, Facebook!
And now I must have another visit back there because my profile updates are vastly important to folk’s and indeed animal’s, lives ๐
When I’ve had a better look, I shall tell you what I think. As in think about “Pets: Rub My Belly” ๐
Thank you for the honour, or to upset my spell check, “honor”!
Thanks, Gary! I’ll have to check on that comment that disappeared…still wonky! ๐
Don’t get me started on Facebook! Grrr…
LOL…one of your favorite subjects, isn’t it, Vicki? hehe
BTW – you’re a genius! I just bitch about Facebook, but you actually do something to make it better. ๐
LOL…thank you – but you’re the Google Plus guru! ๐
Thank you for the post. A million dollars is not cool, a billion dollars is cool, but ten billion, not cool
You are so smart! Thank you for explaining. I’ve been wondering about the “likes” lately, because I’ve been getting emails of new likes on my FB author page, but the counter doesn’t seem to go up to match the likes! huh??!
And that is why I only have FB for me. If I had to handle one for Georgia as well, it’d drive me batty.
Personally, I’m quite happy that they now give us the option to have posts appear in the newsfeed or not. (Didn’t know that!) I had to unlike Michael Jackson and Eurovision a few months ago because I got so tired of seeing daily updates ๐
Yep, Facebook definitely had the ability to make me a little crazy. Thanks for the explanation and the work around. I’ll be sharing this!
You’re most welcome, all – figured I might as well share what I’d already put together! Hope you enjoy ๐
Facebook is losing it’s thrill for me. I find myself spending less and less time there…
I hadn’t noticed that liking a page thing and not seeing it lately sort of thing. I’ve noticed all the rest of the chaos, though. Maybe I haven’t noticed because of what’s been going on, as of late. Either way, thanks for letting me and everyone else know. I’ll check it out. Facebook can be more than a little irritating at times. they seem to be much more interested in making a buck with people info thatn with dealing with their obvious problems. Btw, I shared your new page.
Since I’ve been “absent” from social media for awhile, I knew nothing about this new “show in newsfeed thing” Thanks for sharing, I’m going to have to go back to all my pages and redo my likes. See, Facebook makes me batty, too.
