Worried about which pet food to choose these days? There is one you can trust and feel really good about – The Honest Kitchen. Holistic, human-grade, dehydrated whole food ingredients make up their products, which are made in the US (right in my state, in fact) and are also guaranteed to not contain any ingredients from China. Just imagine how great their treats must be!
To say I was thrilled at the chance to review treats from The Honest Kitchen is an understatement. Everything we could possibly love about a pet food company, with nothing of what we don’t like – that about sums up THK.
The Honest Kitchen offers up three varieties of dog cookies, “Ice Pups”, and a fish treat that is suitable for both dogs and cats. (How cool is that, a treat you can have on hand at home to give your dogs and your cats?) Guess which one we ordered here?!
To be fair, all the treats sound delicious, with duck and cherry, buffalo and blueberry for added cookie flavor choices. The Ice Pups are an awesome idea, and so flexible in how you can use them in different ways.
Intrigued, but it’s not chicken… |
But we ordered the “Wishes” -ingredients: 100% wild Icelandic Haddock, nothing else. Grain-free treats perfect for our allergy sufferers here, these are simply fillets of dehydrated fish. They break easily (and neatly) into smaller pieces, so you can offer just the amount/size you wish.
Curious, but not interested |
I couldn’t wait to give these to our cats. Just imagine – pure fish! Quite surprisingly, though, not all were gaga for them. Granted, some of our cats here are huge chicken lovers, and not much for the “fishy” pet foods. But none have ever turned down tuna, so I thought this would be a huge hit with all of them. Go figure. Maybe some of them just need time to adjust to a treat so great!
Big or small, any piece around – YUM |
In all, the cats’ reactions to these Wishes treats were split 50/50 by one of two extremes; either they weren’t interested enough to even take a taste, or they couldn’t get enough. Candy was so thrilled when she got a big piece to lick and munch on – she rolled around with it as though it were catnip! She was in kitty heaven!
Mine, all mine! |
And then there were the dogs. I don’t even have a photo of Chester – he kept swiping the treat from my hand, inhaling it, before I could get a shot. Blur of motion for CindyLu, too. There was NO DOUBT the dogs LOVED these Honest Kitchen treats! And I loved knowing what I was giving them was wholly, irrefutably good stuff.
More please? |

Cat Chat With Caren And Cody says
would love to try the Wishes Dog and Cat Treats…my Cody has allergies and wish so desperately I could find a treat that he can eat. Are these made with any sort of broth? If so, Cody can’t have them but Dakota can. Some grain-free cat treats still contain chicken broth and that is a no-no.
Do you have a “follow by email” option for your blog? Would love it if you did because I never have time to go into my reader! xoxoxo
Kim says
Hi, Caren! Cody could most definitely eat the Wishes treats (and they’re the only THK ones for cats.) They are nothing but dehydrated haddock.
As for the other varieties, if you follow either of the links, you’ll find information about the ingredients. They’re all really quite impressive! Bet Dakota would loooove them ๐
I’m the same as you with the reader. If you’d like to follow by email, just click the orange Subscribe RSS button at the upper left of the page – you’ll get options to follow by readers or by email. Any problems with it, just let me know!

I’ve been wanting to buy some smooches… we feed Force and Prowl here, and the guys love it!
Pamela says
I’d love to try the Wishes. I find many dehydrated meat/fish products aren’t soft enough to cut up easily so I’m interested to check these out.
Kim says
Oh, Pamela, you’re going to love the Wishes treats, then! I actually broke them into pieces with my hands – and the good one was barely functioning after surgery for my broken wrist!
Kelly says
Hey Kim, how ya doing?
I like the reaction pictures of the cats to the treats. And I know what you mean by your cats either acting interested or devouring the treats as if they hadn’t eaten for weeks. Cats can be gluttons, sometimes, or downright picky. I think my cat, Victor, would be intrigued by the Ice Pups.
I’ll check out that Honest Kitchen page. I like your descriptions of all the treats.
‘Life, pure and simplified. CindyLu says so!’
Take care!
Kim says
Hi, Kelly! I’ll bet Viktor would love the Wishes. Just so you’re aware, the other treats are designated only for dogs…but Wishes are for either cats or dogs. Cats should have ice treats, though, too. You’re right, they’d probably love them!
Ashley says
I’d love to try the Wishes treats. It is always nice when you can pull out one treat for all the kids! Cute pics, by the way!
Kim says
It’s fantastic to be able to pull out one treat – and thank you, Ashley!

Tucker The Crestie says
We love Honest Kitchen! It’s a great company with some amazing products – food, treats, supplements, the whole shebang. We do prey model raw here, but when I travel with the dogs, HK is our go-to food, and I also use it often for Tucker to mix his thyroid support medication in. He loves it, and I love knowing that it’s good for him, too!
Kim says
Thanks, it’s great to hear from someone who has so much experience with Honest Kitchen!

I like the idea that the treats can be broken into small bites for my little guys.
Misty, Timmy, Chamois, and Tudee would like to try the Honest Kitchen treats since their owner trusted their dog food maker to buy a premium kibble and found that the food was made in some cesspool.
Kim says
Oh, dear…that’s happened to so many of us. Nasty companies!! Not the case with Honest Kitchen, though ๐

My nine rescued dogs and one foster dog would love to win the Honest Kitchen NUZZLES Dog Treats. Thank you!
Kim says
Holy canine, your house has gone to the dogs! We love you for fostering, too ๐
Trish B. says
Thank you! I worked as a student intern at my local kill animal control for one year about eleven years ago. Most of my dogs came from there and were not going to make it to adoption. I could not stand looking at their precious faces and knowing they were going to die for no reason other than there are not enough homes. Most of my babies are at least ten years old now. ๐
Amy says
The Honest Kitchen and Mr. Chewy sounds like a winning combination! My boys are crazy for those Smooches. I accidentally left a box of them on the dash of the RV and Ty climbed up there and ate them all. He’ll do anything for Smooches.

I’d love to try the The Honest Kitchen WISHES Dog and Cat Treats. It would be great to have a healthy treat I can give the dogs and the cat : ) And they all love fish!

WISHES, It is the only treat that every Cat in TheKindle likes and I need them by July when they all go to the VET together for a 1 year Rabies shot and Vet Visit. I get a break for taking them all at once
but tensions are high and my wish is to be able to take a bag of treats
to keep the high strung ones calm!
