With all the current concerns about dog treats imported from China – and the massive pet food recall of 2007 due to melamine still too fresh in our minds – it sure would be great to feel confident about what we feed our pets.
Obtaining detailed information about pet foods and treats is difficult to do. Information available is often partial at best, leaving pet guardians to wonder what exactly they’re really providing for their pets. That’s where Susan Thixton with her site, The Truth About Pet Food, has been of tremendous help in shedding light on what many in the pet food industry don’t want us to know.
“We applaud the tough position on behalf of pet safety that Midas Touch is taking,” says Scott Freeman, founder of Nature’s Logic and the developer of the company’s products. “Pet parents benefit from knowledgeable industry experts like Jo Bighouse who diligently research every aspect of the products they carry, digging deeper that the marketing claims made by companies to help consumers make informed choices for their animal companions.”
“I have found that ‘made in the USA’ does not tell the entire story,” says Jo Bighouse, owner of Midas Touch Naturally Healthy Pets. “Each of the manufacturers we represent are being contacted and asked if any raw materials in their products are imported from China, and we are not stopping there,” she continues. “If I am told the vitamins are from a country other than China, including the US, I am contacting that vitamin source to find out if their raw material is from China. If I can confirm that a pet product manufacturer includes raw materials sourced from China, I will not sell the product.”
Midas Touch Naturally Healthy Pets in Berryville, VA provides pet owners healthy nutrition choices and natural alternatives to chemical-based products. The independent pet retailer will not sell any products with ingredients of any kind from China. Midas Touch Naturally Healthy Pets focuses on education, offering seminars by pet health experts in addition to their healthy treats, food, supplements, USA-made toys, natural grooming supplies, homeopathic remedies, essential oils and flower essences. The retailer specializes in and recommends raw pet foods. For more information about Midas Touch, visit www.midastouchhealth.com or call 540-955-9690.
Wow. That’s really impressive. Although I have no facts to back it up, I would wager they are one of the few, if only, pet food companies doing this. I’ve never heard of their product before, but I will be checking it out. Thanks Kim!
You’re welcome, Mel:) I’m looking forward to seeing which other brands actually make the cut for Jo’s list! My thoughts are like yours – probably not many.
I am very impressed by this – I was planning on sharing it on Kol’s Notes tomorrow, but now I can just link to you in my Wrekly Woof! Thanks Cindy Lu! We’re pretty excited to be hosting a Nature’s Logic giveaway next week!
If you were impressed by this news, then we KNOW it’s a good thing!! Enjoy the giveaway – it’s such a great product to offer. Cool, we’re gonna be in the Weekly Woof?! 🙂
what an important post.. so many people dont pay enough attention to what they feed there pets, and their families for that matter…
Why do you think I make my own dog food. You can’t be sure where the base ingredients are sourced from.
Reminds me of a line from Armagedon: “American components, Russian components … all made in Taiwan”
Things have become very difficult to discern.
I agree and even more so with labeling on the packaging like “Made in America” in large type, then fine print underneath “using imported ingredients” and such.
I feed Macy a greenie every morning. I’ll have to check where it is made…
