Imagine a pet food made with fresh meats, all natural ingredients, and no grains or chemical preservatives. A pet food that is biologically appropriate, with high protein and limited carbohydrates, made by a company that reveres local, sustainable farming. Imagine feeling good about the kibble you feed your dog or cat.

The way Nature intended
Orijen is produced exclusively in the company’s own plants in Alberta, Canada. The “fresh, never-frozen” meats are from regional, carefully chosen sources and certified fit for human consumption by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
The chicken is 100% free-run, red meat is free-range, fresh and saltwater fish are caught wild from Canadian lakes and the Pacific Ocean. No Ethoxyquin or BHA/BHT, or any other chemical preservatives, are used.
The formula for Orijen is 80% meat, 20% fruits, vegetables, and botanicals, and 0% grain (75/25/0 for red version). This is chosen as a biologically appropriate diet. Studies of anatomy and dietary needs have concluded that dogs and cats are carnivores, requiring meat as their main sustenance.

Grain-Free
The inclusion of a high percentage of cereal grains in many pet foods is one of convenience and cost. Pet food manufacturers prefer the ease with which grains can be obtained and stored, and their profit margin is greatly enhanced by the low cost of grains versus meats for dietary energy. Grains are not beneficial for your pet, however, and can in fact be deleterious to their long-term health.
Carbohydrates from grains provide empty calories and sugar. Excess intake often leads to diabetes and obesity – two of the greatest risk factors for a host of health woes, lowered quality of life, and even early death. Meat-based proteins, on the other hand, provide energy and lean muscle mass, without these complications. Any excess protein in the system is simply excreted.

Sophia
We are currently fostering a cat that was having gastrointestinal issues. Sophia was also “grooming” herself in excess, resulting in thinned or bald patches and a raw belly. Suspecting an allergy to grains, we recently switched to all grain-free foods. Her tummy problems have subsided. Her excessive licking has lessened. The poor girl – the very foods we were giving to nurture her were in fact tormenting her.
So we were thrilled to test Orijen with our cats. Already providing a grain-free diet, I simply mixed some Orijen in with their other kibble (Blue Buffalo) for a gradual introduction. They loved the taste, eating the Orijen first. I love knowing they are eating food that has been matched to their physiological needs and is made with quality, wholesome ingredients!

I would like to try Pallo on the Orijen Red. Koira never does too good on kibble, no matter the kind, but Pallo generally does good on kibble, and both of my dogs love kibble as treats.

Although it is a little difficult to get in Europe, we also feed Kenzo and Viva with Orijen. They are thriving on it. And Viva has no more issues with the food-allergies she had before. She eats the Orijen 6 Fish and Kenzo also Orijen Adult.

I would love to try the 6 Fish dry cat food. My soul mate Bandit overgrooms his belly and I have long suspected a food alergy.
