Here in the US, Black Friday is a big deal. Literally. Stores woo customers in their doors with can’t-resist bargains, in the hopes of garnering a share of their Christmas shopping dollars. Shoppers go through ridiculous lengths to nab their favorite specials. Consumerism at it’s best and it’s worst. There’s something about the day, though, that makes us want to scream out – “Hey, don’t forget about us!”
What if we looked at “Black Friday” from a different viewpoint?

Black pets all over are sitting endlessly in shelters and rescues, waiting and waiting for their own homes. BDS and BCS exists; just ask anyone involved with homeless pets. Heck, we’ve had Candy and Gumdrop staying with us for years now. People tend to shun black-colored dogs and cats. They’re missing out on some unbelievable pets!
So, why not consider spending a little of that Christmas cash on the addition of a black pet for your family? Why not set aside a bit of it to do something positive this season – provide a loving home for a pet who’s been waiting so long for their forever home? Trust me, it could very well be the best gift you’ve ever given your family, and yourself.
If you’re in the Chicagoland area and considering adding a pet to your home, Almost Home Foundation has some wonderful black dogs and cats for you! Like…

You’ll find Crystal, Lazer, Candy and Gumdrop in there. Plus many more catabulous kitties!
I love it. Now that’s my kind of Black Friday.
I second what Pamela said!
Here, here!
I am a black dog and I love my hoomans. ๐
My friend D.R. says she wants to adopt two black cats when she gets a new apartment. ๐
I think we should start a Black Furday tradition!
Greetings,
Yes, you lucky humans and animals alike, tis I, Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet star, gracing you with yet another one of my eagerly anticipated comments.
Thanks for telling me about your ‘Black Friday’. I’m amazed that stores woof customers, I mean, woo customers. What do they do? Stand outside the front of the stores and yell ‘woo’ at startled shoppers? ๐
And now for the serious part. It’s just plain silly to think an animal is overlooked for a potential home because it’s black. All of us animals, regardless of colour (or for you Americans, ‘color’)display unconditional love. As for me, I’m black and white. I have been mistaken for a really small cow. Maybe I could ‘moo’ customers into the stores! ๐ And to that clever human who left a comment above this wonderful comment by me. “Black Furday”, very smart and a darned good effort for a human! ๐ Pawsitive wishes and doggy kisses, your way, Penny xx
Your right. It will be the best Black Friday gift ever receieved
While I absolutely support your idea of adopting a black dog (I have two and a half (one is black and white)black dogs…I do not support giving pets as Christmas presents.
Holidays are really bad times to adopt, especially if you have family in and out. Very stressful. Give a “we’ll get one after New years” certs and bowls, etc.
Yay! Clementine has the same markings as my Molly did and Freddie is gorgeous. I hope shelters/rescues get some extra (but not impulsive) holiday traffic this weekend. I know I’d rather be there than fighting over the latest “deal” in the mall.
You need to submit this idea to the SPCA or another organization. Such a great cause!!!
AROOOOOF!

I agree: this is my kind of black Friday!
