You might have been fortunate, living in the lap of luxury, with not a care in the world.
You might have been average, with worries and concerns, but overall life was good.
You might have been unfortunate, with instability, hunger and perhaps abuse as well.
You might have just been wandering, having lost your way, lost your compass.
No matter your situation, your lot – at least as it was – you stand on your own feet now.
Looking forward with optimism, you face the future, the Great Unknown.
With trembling legs you walk hesitantly, unsure of your road, insecure of your ability;
Yet you move forward to this new life of yours, this opportunity you’ve been given.
Perhaps you are not sure of who to trust, or whether to at all, or
Your fear has a greater hold on you now than your Will can overcome;
There may be injuries, wounds, permanent disabilities to contend with,
And of course the greatest wound of all – the one in your heart.
But you know this is your one life here, your only round,
And you know there can be much better, as you’ve dreamt it could be.
You know there is wrong and evil, you believe there is also right and wonderful.
So you move forward, in your new life you’ve been given, and give it all you’ve got.
You trust, you believe, you love. You give it a chance, this second chance.
October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month.
